Key product information for the Houghton Perspective Garden Trellis Set
Included in the installation kit of the Houghton Perspective Garden Trellis Set are the 22 hooks needed to mount the metal wall trellis. Using these hooks will ensure that the wrought-iron trellis is correctly secured to the wall, with a gap of 10 cm between trellis and façade. Once you’ve bought the screws and fasteners to attach the hooks, you will be ready to install the wall trellis. If black’s not the right colour for you, then you can also order the Houghton Double in any other colour you fancy. You can even ask for it to be produced in a different size, if you prefer.
Wrought-iron trellis with trompe-l’œil effect and double archway
The standard Houghton Perspective Garden Trellis Set is 228 cm tall and 356 cm wide. With its double trompe-l’œil effect, created by two gateway-like sections, this spectacular wall trellis transforms outdoor areas by appearing to create a larger space. It gives you the impression that you are staring into the distance – an optical illusion that is popular amongst landscape gardeners keen to add a three-dimensional effect to walls and façades next to paths.
Garden art inspired by a country estate
The name and design of this magnificent metal wall trellis were inspired by a country estate called Houghton Hall in Norfolk, England. Houghton Hall, built in the 1720s for the first British Prime Minister, is one of the most impressive examples of Palladian architecture in England. By installing the Houghton Double either by itself or alongside another of our metal garden trellises, you can revolutionise plain or unsightly walls and turn them into real pieces of garden art. Whilst growing flowers such as roses on your outdoor wall trellis can add some seasonal variation to the look and feel of your wall-mounted trellis, it is not actually necessary – this magnificent perspective garden trellis is just as captivating without plants as it is when covered in flowers and blossom.
The first perspective trellises used as stylish decorative elements
French treillage frames were first introduced to royal gardens by none other than landscape gardener André Le Nôtre – the gardener to King Louis XIV of France – and his contemporary, Jules Hardouin-Mansart – the King’s court architect. These two visionaries transformed both the wooden and the metal treillage frame from something that had been purely functional into something that could be used as a stylish decorative element and piece of garden art. They used them to decorate pergolas and labyrinths, built imposing pavilions made of trellis panels, and attached perspective trellises to walls to create a magical trompe-l’œil effect.
Creating a sense of perspective in your own garden
So why not walk in the footsteps of a great landscape gardener and use perspective trellis panels to add a magical sense of space and perspective to your own garden? The high-quality production and captivating design of the Houghton Perspective Garden Trellis Set will allow you to do just that. And what’s more, once you’ve installed your new metal garden trellis, you won’t have to worry about maintaining it at all – unlike a wooden garden trellis, a metal wall trellis is made to last and will keep adding a touch of magic to your garden for years to come, without you having to lift even a finger.
